Red Wine - Casale/GDM Sangiovese 2021
Sangiovese from Certaldo, Tuscany, Italy
An elegant Chianti made in a collaboration with importer Giorgio de Maria and Casale, an estate founded in 1770 and biodynamic since 1995. Rooted in Certaldo’s galestro and clay soils, this Sangiovese is spontaneously fermented in concrete and aged in cement and old chestnut casks. Cherry-bright, savory, and vibrant—an energetic classic grounded in earthy depth and true to tradition.
We had an outrageous evening trying vertical offerings of Trebbiano and Sangiovese at Vineria Sonora in Firenze, Italy. Antonio is a gracious winemaker and a complete larrikin.
The label artwork is by Torino legend, Gianluca Cannizzo of My Poster Sucks fame. You can’t escape his vibrant artwork featured on Natural Wine bottles and hanging in Natural Wine bars all over Italy. We have five of his posters hanging in the shop as a reminder of our time in Italy.
